Worry vs Worship

There just seems to be so much to worry about at the moment with all the change and uncertainty that it’s hard to leave our worries with God. I know that worrying can’t change the situation and that worship and prayer can, yet it is a choice I have to make daily to give my worries to Him.

God is always bigger than our problems and the more we worship the less we worry and vice versa. It’s very difficult to be anxious and grateful at the same time. Even if our situation looks dire God is always at work to bring the best outcome. Sometimes the outcome is that we are changed.

I read this description recently which I found very helpful. Worry is like incense that goes up to the Enemy and he loves it, but when we choose to worship that scent becomes like kryptonite! Let’s choose to worship over worry.

These are some of my favourite verses in the Bible and I read them often to remind me not to worry but instead to worship God because He cares for me! I hope they are encouraging for you too.

Philippians 4: 4-8 NIV

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Philippians 4: 4-8 Passion Translation

Be cheerful with joyous celebration in every season of life. Let joy overflow, for you are united with the Anointed One! Let gentleness be seen in every relationship, for our Lord is ever near. Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ. So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honourable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.
