Fix Your Eyes On Jesus
Recently I have been reminded of the story of Jesus walking on water in Matthew 14.
Matthew 14:25-32
“25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
The thing that stood out to me in this story is Peter; Peter wanted to see if it was really Jesus, so Jesus told him to come and step out of the boat. This is what Peter did; he took a step and walked on the water.
Peter took his eyes off Jesus and looked at what was going on around him; his focus became on the storm instead of Jesus.
I don’t know about you, but this really struck me, because during this whole time with everything going on my focus at times has been on my situation. I have focused on the storm around me and then become fearful.
But the amazing thing we see in this passage is Peter cries out to Jesus “Lord save me” and Jesus reaches out his hand.
We may have lost our focus and taken our eyes off Jesus, but he is there, and his hand is waiting to reach out to us.
You might have found lock down a great time or the worst time ever; we have all had different experiences, but God is constant, he is faithful, and he is always with us.
Why not spend a moment today re fixing your eyes on Jesus and let Jesus be with you in the storm of life?
Hebrews 12:2 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”
